Lyrics :

Songwriters: Holljes, Eric Richard; Posner, Mike;

If I could write you a song to make you fall in love
I would already have you up under my arm
I used up all of my tricks, I hope that you like this
But you probably won’t, you think you’re cooler than me

You got designer shades just to hide your face and
You wear ‘em around like you’re cooler than me
And you never say “hey” or remember my name
And it’s probably ’cause you think you’re cooler than me

You got your high brow shoes on your feet
And you wear ‘em around like it ain’t shit

http://vigneshgautham.wordpress.com/

But you don’t know the way that you look
When your steps make that much noise

Shh, see I got you all figured out
You need every one’s eyes just to feel seen
Behind your make up nobody knows who you even are
Who do you think that you are?

If I could write you a song to make you fall in love
I would already have you up under my arm
I used up all of my tricks, I hope that you like this
But you probably won’t, you think you’re cooler than me

You got designer shades just to hide your face and
You wear ‘em around like you’re cooler than me
And you never say “hey” or remember my name
And it’s probably ’cause you think you’re cooler than me

Yo… Yo.. You got your high brow switch in your walk
And you don’t even look when you pass by
But you don’t know the way that you look
When your steps make that much noise

Shh, see I got you all figured out
You need every one’s eyes just to feel seen
Behind your make up nobody knows who you even are
Who do you think that you are?

‘Cause it sure seems
(‘Cause it sure seems)
You got no doubt
(That you got no doubt)
But we all see
(We all see)
You got your head in the clouds
(Clouds)

If I could write you a song to make you fall in love
I would already have you up under my arm

Let us assume i’m a scout for different clubs at each point. Its a situation where i interact with a player(assume a Brazilian by origin). Though Brazilians disappointed in this World Cup ’10 many clubs prefer them. And lets see how scouts go in search of them.

I’m a Real Madrid scout -
I’m going to unearth brazil players at important matches such as World Cups, Confederation cups… I tell them after analyzing their game and stats, “Hey guy your stats make you a valuable substitute at Real Madrid. We’ll pay you more to demolish the game you have and sell you to some dumb club.”

I’m a scout from mediocre EPL teams -
“You have played wonderfully in your local league. You surely deserve to be in EPL.” They take him and he accepts the offer for money. When the season starts he knows he’s the only player who knows how to play FOOTBALL..

I’m a scout from top EPL teams -
“Your performance is the highlight of this year’s UEFA Champions/Europa league. You wanna see yourself in a top club like ours, don’t you ?”. The first brainwash of many, makes him play for long and gives him the worst exit ever. :’(

(I’m not sure Indian clubs have a scout, if there then this is it.)
Now coming to being a scout from a team in Indian I-League -
Scout – “Are you born in Brazil ?”
Player – No. I’m a Nigerian, and i don’t know to play football like Martins or even like a Nigerian schoolboy.
Scout – No problem. In my country you will be accepted as a Brazilian.
Thus he is brought into I-League and becomes top scorer in it..

This might share a lighter moment, but its quite true as only Pune FC and Salgaocar SC doesn’t have a Nigerian in their ranks.

India is a country with over a billion people. It is rare not to find a person who doesn’t play cricket. But once an Indian cricketer retires, the search is on for his heir. But in most cases the search ends up in vain or the selectors lose faith in their chosen players. The best example for the latter case – Kapil Dev, voted the Wisden Indian cricketer of the century (1900s) retired in 1994. The selectors were on the lookout for the best all rounder to fill in Kapil’s huge shoes. And in 2003 they fielded a pace bowler in the name of Irfan Pathan. Initially thought as a bowler he transformed into a bowler who can bat changed to almost a pure batsman. But the selectors lost interest in him by saying he was intended to bowl and pick up wickets and dropped him from the Indian team.

Though wicket keeping in India has not been so much prolific such as finding the next Kapil Dev, it surely has had some interesting moments in the history of Indian circket. India has had great wicket keepers in the past before the Mongia era including NS Tamhane, Farokh Engineer, Budhi Kunderan, Syed Kirmani and Kiran More.

Nayan Mongia followed this illustrious list as Kiran More, famous for the Javed Miandad jumping jack imitation, followed the suit as he was dropped by the selectors after some dismal performances. Nayan Mongia had been an understudy to Kiran More for a long time similar to KS More who spent his time as an understudy to Kirmani. Everyone including the English great Allan Knott felt that Mongia was natural behind the stumps. Mongia is known for his lightning reflexes behind the stumps and proved his mettle. Mongia showed his potent with the bat too as he scored important runs for the team during his early stage in the team. He was ready to bat at any position and kept wickets equally well. The board rewarded his consistent effort as they made him their No.1 choice for wicket keeper. He had many ups and downs in his career. His match winning 152 during 1996-97 test match against the Aussies add to it 6 valuable half-centuries, numerous 40s made him an asset to the Indian team. He was not poor in ODIs too as he scored whenever the team demanded.

Mongia has been there for so long – he was a part of the Indian cricket team during 1996 and 1999 World cup campaigns and not to forget the epic test in which VVS Laxman scored his 281, India scripted one of their famous victories against the Aussies. Though he did not feature in the 3rd test and was replaced by Sameer Dighe, people knew he was important for the team. And everyone knew his time with the Indian team would never be back. Even Nayan Mongia realized it only when he was dropped for Baroda, his home team. Mongia was always caught on the wrong end of the road by the media as he was involved in showing dissent to the umpires’ decision and banned after suspicions of being involved in the match-fixing crisis that shattered India during the late 90s.

After Mongia, MSK Prasad had a short stint with the national team. But Prasad proved to be a letdown with the bat as well as the glove work. The irony was that after the Australia series, Prasad who was considered as the right heir was replaced by Mongia himself during the RSA tour of India! Then came in Sameer Dighe, who played a lone series in Zimbabwe after which he was replaced by a sulky Deep Dasgupta. Though Dasgupta was a stylish batsman who scored a ton and two 50s in is 8-match career he was initially poor behind the stumps and before he could improve he was chucked out of the team. Dasgupta was replaced by Ajay Ratra, a short wicketkeeper batsman who scored a lone century in the Windies. He had poor time with keeping wickets and eventually lost his place in the side to the young Parthiv Patel. An interesting thing happened in Indian cricket when Rahul Dravid chose to don the gloves in the ODIs which proved efficient as India could have an extra bowler.

Parthiv came in at a very young age of 17 and baffled the critics as he staved off an Indian defeat at Trent Bridge. He was shoddy with his glovework and was in the team because of his batting ablitiy, but once it faded he was replaced by Dinesh Karthik. Thus in one year the BCCI selectors juggled their domestic wicketkeepers to find a perfect replacement. Not only this Saba Karim and Vijay Dahiya fairly had a dream run with the Indian ODI squad too. The former was hit by a ball which forced his unlucky exit, while the latter was incompetent with his batting skills. Dinesh Karthik was initially an unlucky batsman but continued his good glovework. But improved over time and is an able batsman who has made into the squad as the 2nd choice wicketkeeper behind the prolific Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Dinesh Karthik was replaced by MS Dhoni for 2004 ODI series against the Bangladesh. Dhoni didn’t fare well in the tournament. But Dhoni got his chance during the Indo-Pak series in 2005 in which he scored a quick-fire 148 off just 123 balls. Dhoni was a hard hitter of the ball and gradually improved over his ordinary performance behind the stumps. As time went on, Dhoni became stronger and stronger. He followed his good showing with a 183 notout over Sri Lanka and also earned a test squad call-up in 2005-06 series against Sri Lanka. He was never to be replaced after that except when he wanted rest or when he was injured. After a forgettable 2007 ODI World Cup, Dhoni took over the reins from Rahul Dravid. Dhoni, the man of the moment helped India to win the first ever T20 World cup, took India to No.1 ranking in Test cricket. Now people from all over the world feel India has a strong leader who commands the whole team from behind the stumps. MS Dhoni is a nightmare for even the top bowlers in the world cricket. From just a hard-hitting batsman wicketkeeper to strong leader, Dhoni has gone far, very far ahead than the rest of his predecessors and current competitors could even imagine!

Follow me on twitter if you like this post Follow me !

There have been a lot of talk about the official ball being used now by the FIFA for the World Cup. It is named ‘Jabulani’. Whats so special about the ball. Goalkeepers call it ‘rubbish‘, ‘heavy‘, ‘useless‘, ‘unpredictable‘ and even an Australian Physics Professor Derek Leinweber confirmed it through a research and said the ball was faster and turns unpredictably. Jabulani could ‘dip’ and ‘swerve’ anytime making it unpredictable.

He further stated, “The Jabulani is almost perfectly round and is designed to have all this turbulence around it. It will be coming at goalkeepers faster and harder and doing a lot of things differently to what is normally expected.”

FIFA Standards / Jabulani Ball Stats

Source : Adidas

The table proves jabulani is a ball that is well within the FIFA standards. This table shows that the molding technique means the ball retains its shape, and the lack of seaming means there is essentially zero water retention, which will reduce sluggishness of the ball if South Africa defies the odds and rains throughout the World Cup. Scientists at Adidas said the following

The weight is interesting – being towards the higher end of the allowed scale means the flight will be truer and more predictable making keepers happy, but also rewarding accuracy for strikers.

But has balls made for scoring goals really worked in the past ? ?

Lets look at match balls used in the previ0us WCs.

Previous records of using match balls at the world cups :

We have to account the 1966 World Cup, wherein different type of football was used for the last time in the world cup.

Number of games 32
Total Goals scored 89
Average per game 2,78
1970:
Telestar, an Adidas product for 1970 WC made its debut. And the ‘buckminister fullerene’ type ball produced instant effect as the average goals per game increased tremendously. Nice shape, great goals.

Telestar

Number of games 32
Total Goals scored 95
Average per game 2,97
1974:
The telestar continued to be used with slight modifications in the materials used. And there was a drop in the number of goals/per match mainly attributed to ‘Total Football‘ concept followed by the Dutch. Ball Control was the order of the day instead of scoring goals.

Adidas introduced a new ball which had rubber inlaid over the seams to prevent water from seeping through. The first ball with water-resistant qualities. General wear from kicking however meant the rubber began to wear after a short time and needed to be replaced during the game. The last genuine leather world cup ball. FIFA World Cup USA, 1994, official ball which was enveloped in a layer of polystyrene foam. This not only made it more waterproof but allowed the ball greater acceleration when kicked. The new game ball felt softer to the touch. Improved ball control and higher velocity during play, provided the much needed fireworks that lacked in the previous WC.

By 1998,FIFA World Cup France was played with a ball which sported the French red-white-blue tri-color. A complete departure from the old traditional black and white pattern. The first official World Cup colored soccer ball. The TRICOLORE used underglass print technology with a thin layer of syntactic foam.

And new technologies have proved that even though they might produce goals, they are deceptive. If you have observed, from 1994 USA the goals/match have been dwindling. We cannot attribute technology as the only cause, the defenders too deserve their credit. But is the change of technology in footballs worth it ? ?

Spectators need goals, but changing the balls continuously means players settle to one ball but before using it to the fullest, another ball is produced with latest research and breath-taking technology.

Going by everyone’s words, Jabulani is sure a goalkeeper’s nightmare, but only if players try to score !! And the first day of 2010 WC has ended with a mere 2 goals in 2 matches. Disappointing start, but that is how this world cup will be. Less number of goals at least until players settle. Wait for sometime till you get your goals.

It has been a good build-up to the men’s final. Robin Soderling, who was the giant-crusher during the French open 2009 had defeated Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals. But he went down tamely to Roger Federer, to hand Federer’s first French open crown and also a career grand slam !! But this year, Soderling had been seeded No.5 and beat Federer in the quarterfinals and handed him his earliest exit ever from a Grand Slam for the past 6 years. The last time he lost earlier was in the same open to Gustavo Kuerten.

But this year French open has had some interesting moments, not only in the Men’s draw but also in Women’s. With an Australian Samantha Stosur and Italy’s Francesca Schiavone it had history written all over. Whoever won it made history, and the history books liked Francesca Schiavone and at 29 she became the 2nd oldest player to win this slam. Samantha, 26 has achieved her career-best ranking and playing like she never had. Both the women’s finalist played their best slam of their career.

The Fourth Round, Qurters and Semis :

While Francesca Schiavone overthrew Mraia Kirilenko, Caroline Wozniacki (3rd seed) and shocked Elena Dementieva. When Serena and Justine Henin wanted to win another French open, Sam had other plans for them. She made them pack their bags days earlier and routed for Henin in the 4th round, for Serena(No.1) in the quarters and Jelena Jankovic in the semis.

Women’s Final :

This made everyone think Sam had an edge over Francesca. But as again history had other plans for each of them. Francesca tasted the glory but Sam had played her best and the connoisseurs say the best is yet to come. We’ll wait for it Sam. It was a hard fought final and Sam was defeated 6-4, 7-6 by the Italian.

Double’s : Men’s and Women’s Final -

While Serena and Venus treated themselves with another doubles crown, this time at the French open. It was obvious, the sisters played well and got their much deserving crown. They beat Kveta Peschke CZE (12) Katarina Srebotnik SLO (12) in the final 6-2, 6-3.

Men’s doubles had Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic beating Indo-Czech pair of Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy 7-5, 6-2.

Nenad Zimonjic had a doubles doubles’ by obtaining both the doubles crowns. He partnered with Katarina Srebotnik SLO (6) to beat Yaroslova Shevdova(Kaz) and Julian Knowle(Aut) 4-6, 7-6 1-0

Whatever has happened, Nadal proves that he is the master of clay who mustered up his 200th win in claiy recently looks all set to bite his 5th French open crown as he won in the court Philippe Chatrier 6-4, 6-2 6-4.

I’m not sure whether you would have observed the similarities. But if you hadn’t just look out and be amazed !! If you like this post Follow me on Twitter .

1. Unlucky start to the campaign – CSK lost Dhoni for a few matches, KP was out for a single match(not at the start though) coupled with the rain forcing D/L rule for England in its group matches.

2. Lets start with the opening pair (Right -left)

I. An aggresive left hander
- For Chennai Super Kings it was Hayden and for England it was Lumb who played for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

II. Technically Sound right hander
- For chennai super kings it was Murali Vijay and for England it was the ‘keeper batsman Craig Kieswetter. Both of them showed, the bat remained traditional yet can score runs heavily with their technique combined with controlled aggression.

2. A wonderful one down batsman who is always dependable.

Raina disposed the opposition bowlers in the IPL, while the big man KP did it in ICC World T20. He also ended up with the most coveted prize – The man of the tournament, makes us think his baby is born at the right time !!

3. The captain coming whenever the team is in any chaos and arranges it properly to set up a win. He can play for hours as well as change gears and beat the bowlers black and blue. Both Collingwood and Dhoni have this ability !!

4. A left arm spinner who delivered when it was most needed – Jakati and Yardy share similar traits. They bowled some tight spells, gave away runs in a few matches but ended up lucky as their team won.

5. A wonderful crafty off spinner who put pressure on the opposition as well as slog their bat for a couple of runs. These bowlers are in fact the trump cards.

Trump Cards !!

6. Left arm seamer who can swing the ball and bowl a steady line. Doug Bollinger and Ryan Sidebottom did that. They both rarely changed their pace, and only did when they were exhausted.

When they do it all !!

These were the lynchpin in both the teams and formed the core that won the tournament for their respective teams !! The stability in the team is the reason !!

The consistent team in all 3 editions of IPL makes it this time around. Chennai Super Kings needed a brilliant start from Hayden and Vijay. Hayden once again disappointed with a paltry score. But it was ‘Man of the Final’, Raina who took the match away from Mumbai after given lives on 14 and 28. He was let off due to confusion between A. Nayar and Fernando off Zaheer on 14. He was given a chance by Zaheer on 28. Raina added 72 with Dhoni(22) and Vijay scored 26 runs. Dihara Fernando was the surprise package for Mumbai and took 2-23 in his 4 overs. He was impressive in his line.

Raina scored his 50 off just 24 balls, the fastest 50 in an IPL final. And Chennai had set a score of 169 to chase. The highest score in an IPL final. Mumbai had records to chase for.

Mumbai bowled a controlled first 10 overs and gave only 58 runs for 2 wickets. Then after 12th over Raina took out the Mumbai bowlers. Mumnai wanted to win the match but once again the ‘Golden Boy’ of CSK, Ashwin proved to be a stumbling block for yet another team. He bowled a maiden off his first over. Then Bollinger took out Dhawan in the next over to reduce MI 1-1. Sachin and A.Nayar was solid but once Nayar was out for 27(26 balls), Harbhajan was used as a floater who didn’t disturb the scorers much was out for 1. Jakati took out Sachin for48 off 45 balls. The little master’s wicket was the turning point.

The final 3 overs again turned to give a humdinger of a match. Mumbai needed 55 off 3 overs. And Bollinger gave the big hitting Pollard 22 runs. Then Albie Morkel bowled the over of his life which virtually took CSK home and also got Pollard out. Brilliant captaincy by Dhoni who placed Mid-off(Hayden) much straighter, and Pollard gave a catch exactly to Hayden. The last over paned out just 4 runs and CSK had a much deserved victory. The bowling has been good overall in the tournament for CSK, and they proved it here too.

The record goes this way. Mumbai has lost just 2 games chasing. And both games was against Chennai Super Kings. The Chennai Super Kings lived up to its tag. All players played exceptionally well throughout the tournament. CSK won by 22 runs in a fitting finale. Well done, the boys in yellow. We need more in Champions league too.

If you thought Chennai Super Kings’ batting came a cropper as it got only 142 on the board, then you gotta hit yourself with a sledgehammer after seeing Deccan Chargers being bowled out for just 104 runs by the Super Kings. The CSK is the only team to enter the semis in all 3 editions of IPL and the consistent team is in its 2nd Final in 3 years.

After poor start by the CSK, Dhoni and Badrinath steadied the ship. And when it looked like the storm had crossed the shore, intelligent Harmeet Singh bowled a ‘leggie’ to pierce out Dhoni for 30 runs. Badrinath was out soon for 37 runs and it looked like CSK was out. But some powerful hitting by Anirudha Srikkanth, son of the Indian Selector and Former big hitter Kris Srikkanth scored 24 of just 15 balls with 2 huge sixes. CSK lost Hayden, Vijay and Raina early and Morkel holed out to Symonds at long-on.

Everyone predicted an easy chase for the Chargers, but not to be. Ashwin, the Golden boy of the Super Kings along with pace Super King Dougie Bollinger kept the flow of runs in control. In fact the runs did not even ebb. Deccan became the slowest team in IPL 2010 by scoring just 23/2 in 6 overs and slowest 50 (during 12the over). It all became evident that someone has to deliver a few lusty blows to keep the run-rate in check.

Symonds was left stranded at one end, while wickets kept falling one after the other. But then when Symonds perished, it was Super Kings all the way. The ‘danger-man’ Symonds was out for just 23 runs. And none really threatened to take the match away from the CSK.

Bollinger was ‘man of the match’ for his brilliant match figures of 4-1-13-4. While Ashwin was good to 4-0-14-1. The biggest plus was Morkel didn’t leak out much runs in the match(The 1st such in IPL 2010). 3-0-15-1. Murali was awesome as he gave only 4-0-16-1. Overall CSK bowling had done the Chargers in. Not to forget the brilliant fielding of the Super Kings while the Chargers had been sloppy had dropped 3 catches(2 off Hayden, 1 off Raina) but had ‘LUCK’ as both batsmen perished soon.

The all important clash between DD and CSK @ Chennai ended up with a facile win for DD looking on the scoreboard. But it was keenly fought, Gambhir and Manhas showed their experience to stop CSK from what seemed to be a rampaging bowling attack combined with excellent fielding.

Chennai scored a below par 112 out of their 20 overs. Badrinath palyed the sheath anchor role scoring 30 runs(28 balls) in this low scoring match. Vijay showed glimpses of his form and the team was later rescued by Doug Bollinger, who scored a six in his 16* runs(14 balls). The Delhi batsmen had to keep their noses out of the way and play safe. But there was a slight twist in the tale. Warner went for a duck and Sehwag(4), Dilshan(1) didn’t disturb the scorers much. Sehwag’s wicket saw a leaping Hayden in just 0.66 seconds to latch onto the ball. Dinesh Karthik was out just 13 and DD was tottering at 38/4. Match was evenly poised then, but Manhas and Gauti kept it cool and kept CSK at the bay. Gambhir was adjudged ‘Man of the match’ for his timely 50.

Ashwin, Bollinger and Raina bowled really well for the Super Kings. Earlier Nehra and Nannes were instrumental in restricting CSK with some early wickets. The spinners then conceded just 50 runs of their 12 overs.

Sehwag took 2 wickets, while Dilshan and Mishra picked up a wicket each. Hayden was out for 1 and Dhoni for a duck. The batsmen perished for the CSK, but had the score been above 6 RPO, CSK would have been with a chance. The result of this match means, CSK has to do well in its remaining match against Punjab.
