IPL 2010 Final – CSK Vs MI
The consistent team in all 3 editions of IPL makes it this time around. Chennai Super Kings needed a brilliant start from Hayden and Vijay. Hayden once again disappointed with a paltry score. But it was ‘Man of the Final’, Raina who took the match away from Mumbai after given lives on 14 and 28. He was let off due to confusion between A. Nayar and Fernando off Zaheer on 14. He was given a chance by Zaheer on 28. Raina added 72 with Dhoni(22) and Vijay scored 26 runs. Dihara Fernando was the surprise package for Mumbai and took 2-23 in his 4 overs. He was impressive in his line.
Raina scored his 50 off just 24 balls, the fastest 50 in an IPL final. And Chennai had set a score of 169 to chase. The highest score in an IPL final. Mumbai had records to chase for.
Mumbai bowled a controlled first 10 overs and gave only 58 runs for 2 wickets. Then after 12th over Raina took out the Mumbai bowlers. Mumnai wanted to win the match but once again the ‘Golden Boy’ of CSK, Ashwin proved to be a stumbling block for yet another team. He bowled a maiden off his first over. Then Bollinger took out Dhawan in the next over to reduce MI 1-1. Sachin and A.Nayar was solid but once Nayar was out for 27(26 balls), Harbhajan was used as a floater who didn’t disturb the scorers much was out for 1. Jakati took out Sachin for48 off 45 balls. The little master’s wicket was the turning point.
The final 3 overs again turned to give a humdinger of a match. Mumbai needed 55 off 3 overs. And Bollinger gave the big hitting Pollard 22 runs. Then Albie Morkel bowled the over of his life which virtually took CSK home and also got Pollard out. Brilliant captaincy by Dhoni who placed Mid-off(Hayden) much straighter, and Pollard gave a catch exactly to Hayden. The last over paned out just 4 runs and CSK had a much deserved victory. The bowling has been good overall in the tournament for CSK, and they proved it here too.
The record goes this way. Mumbai has lost just 2 games chasing. And both games was against Chennai Super Kings. The Chennai Super Kings lived up to its tag. All players played exceptionally well throughout the tournament. CSK won by 22 runs in a fitting finale. Well done, the boys in yellow. We need more in Champions league too.
