CSK Vs DC – IPL 2010 2nd Semi-Final
If you thought Chennai Super Kings’ batting came a cropper as it got only 142 on the board, then you gotta hit yourself with a sledgehammer after seeing Deccan Chargers being bowled out for just 104 runs by the Super Kings. The CSK is the only team to enter the semis in all 3 editions of IPL and the consistent team is in its 2nd Final in 3 years.
After poor start by the CSK, Dhoni and Badrinath steadied the ship. And when it looked like the storm had crossed the shore, intelligent Harmeet Singh bowled a ‘leggie’ to pierce out Dhoni for 30 runs. Badrinath was out soon for 37 runs and it looked like CSK was out. But some powerful hitting by Anirudha Srikkanth, son of the Indian Selector and Former big hitter Kris Srikkanth scored 24 of just 15 balls with 2 huge sixes. CSK lost Hayden, Vijay and Raina early and Morkel holed out to Symonds at long-on.
Everyone predicted an easy chase for the Chargers, but not to be. Ashwin, the Golden boy of the Super Kings along with pace Super King Dougie Bollinger kept the flow of runs in control. In fact the runs did not even ebb. Deccan became the slowest team in IPL 2010 by scoring just 23/2 in 6 overs and slowest 50 (during 12the over). It all became evident that someone has to deliver a few lusty
blows to keep the run-rate in check.
Symonds was left stranded at one end, while wickets kept falling one after the other. But then when Symonds perished, it was Super Kings all the way. The ‘danger-man’ Symonds was out for just 23 runs. And none really threatened to take the match away from the CSK.
Bollinger was ‘man of the match’ for his brilliant match figures of 4-1-13-4. While Ashwin was good to 4-0-14-1. The biggest plus was Morkel didn’t leak out much runs in the match(The 1st such in IPL 2010). 3-0-15-1. Murali was awesome as he gave only 4-0-16-1. Overall CSK bowling had done the Chargers in. Not to forget the brilliant fielding of the Super Kings while the Chargers had been sloppy had dropped 3 catches(2 off Hayden, 1 off Raina) but had ‘LUCK’ as both batsmen perished soon.
